Spring is in the air, and along with it comes the thrill of sports. As winter melts away, spring sports are just around the corner and students are filled with excitement. Student athletes are gearing up to hit the fields, track, and court. From the crack of the bat in baseball to the fast footsteps on the track, everyone is eager to show off their skills and get out there. Anticipation is building as tryouts begin and students await the start of spring season. For others, they are getting ready for action packed games.

Students are excited to play a sport they have been playing or are just getting into. Many students play sports due to their friends, interests, or just to stay in shape. “I am going to be joining track because it’s a good sport to stay in shape and get faster for soccer,” sophomore Lauren Smart said.

For freshmen, spring sports offer an opportunity to try something new. Numerous have shared their opinion on how they are not nervous, but excited to try out. “I am not worried or unsure of anything at all. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to meeting new people and improving in lacrosse,” freshman Savana Eison said.

One of the issues specific to spring sports is the unreliability of the weather. The weather is a big factor for sports and it’s a struggle to play in horrible weather during the spring, especially in Minnesota, where it can often still be cold. The hardest part about the weather is that it’s never the same; there are always temperature changes. When tryouts are going on, the weather seems to never be perfect, and this can affect the way people play. “The weather is not the best. It’s definitely the biggest challenge when playing a spring sport,” freshman Kari Rekstad said.

While there can be problems, many aim for the best in their season, hopefully even to win state. But no one can win alone. “I think the best way to win is together as a team. I hope when I play, I can contribute to the team and bring back a state title,” sophomore Delaney Lynch said.
