Second semester starts to feel very long for BSM students. In the beginning of the school year students often wear nice clothes the majority of the time, but in the second half of the year we see a drop in effort. Due to stress, school work, or the feeling of not caring, students tend to lean on leggings, sweats, and hoodies to get them through the second semester. The cold weather also happens to be the reason that many students would rather wear comfortable clothes in the winter. However, some students still think it’s important to dress up at least once a week.
The weather is an important factor in deciding whether to dress up or not. With warmer weather at the start of the school year, students feel more inclined to wear nicer clothes. When the snow and cold start coming, people would rather wear warmer clothes, which tend to not be as appealing. Junior Emily Niska agrees with other students that she doesn’t care how she looks at school and just wants to be comfortable. “I feel like in nicer weather people are more prone to wear cute outfits. But once winter starts, everyone just wants to be lazy and comfy,” Niska said.
Some students think that dressing up for school is important, and often show up with a new trendy outfit. Senior Ava Black stated that it usually takes her 40 minutes to get ready each morning. She tries to wear jeans or nice clothes at least once or twice a week. Although she likes to be comfortable every other morning, she does like to see the school dressed up once in a while.“I think it shows school spirit when we come together as a school and dress up for mass once a month,” Black said.
Overall, there tends to be a decline in nice outfits throughout the school year. Whether it is due to the cold weather, early school days, or a preference of comfort over fashion, many BSM students have strong opinions about this. Senior Ronald Lee would rather be comfortable at school instead of being dressed up. He notices that fellow Red Knights dress up the first three days of school, then effort starts to go down by the day. By second semester, he notices a significant decline in nice outfits at BSM. “Some people do wear jeans and nice shirts, but most of the time everybody comes to school regularly dressed,” Lee said.
