For as long as I can remember, I have always hated ketchup. Why would I want a sweet taste in my food when I can have a tangy taste in my food? The food that you eat ketchup and mustard with is normally salty, so why would you ruin that with a sweet taste?
Most of my friends prefer ketchup over mustard, and I think it might be because of their sweet tooth. But I personally have more hankerings for salty food than I do for sweet food. That is probably why I like mustard so much.
Nothing is better than going to eat a burger on a hot summer day and covering it in mustard. On the other hand, nothing is worse than ruining your burger with sugary tomato sauce on a hot and sticky day. The words sugar and tomato shouldn’t even be in the same sentence, and they definitely shouldn’t be combined to make a sauce.
The world is not set up for mustard lovers, because it’s common to see huge ketchup dispensers where you can pump your own ketchup and take as much as you want. For mustard, there are only the skimpy little packets that barely cover two fries or half of a chicken tender. This shows that most people must be ketchup fans and I am not one of them.
I feel it’s unfair that they make life so easy for ketchup fans and life so hard for mustard fans. We (mustard fans) have to get mustard all over our fingers just to enjoy some fries whereas they (ketchup fans) are able to dip and enjoy mess-free.
While ketchup is more universally accepted, that doesn’t mean that it’s better than mustard. In fact, we need to improve access to mustard. When I was at Disney World, and ordered some crispy chicken tenders and some salty fries, I obviously needed mustard. But when I went over to the condiment station to get some, I realized that all they had was ketchup and ranch?! It was truly unacceptable because only one place gave out packets of mustard. So I took some extra packets of mustard to keep in my bag for meal times. It just showed how most people think that ketchup is better, which makes things unfair for mustard lovers. Since most people prefer ketchup, places cater to the needs of ketchup lovers because it’s easier.
While some may call mustard a gross condiment, I think that it is a delightful condiment that can be put over almost anything to add extra delicious flavor and make mealtime more enjoyable.
