Joe Creer is a joyful and lively figure at BSM and brings energy to all his conversations. He can be seen riding around in his golf cart, directing traffic, and helping everyone, which are some of his daily tasks at Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
Coordinating traffic or enjoying the presence of the kids at Benilde-St. Margaret’s is how Creer also known as known as Coach Creer starts his day. Creer loves being around BSM because of the community and the kids. “The main reason I’ve always loved working here is because I love interacting with kids. I love showing them and teaching them new things they never had a clue about,” Creer said.
Creer used to enjoy coaching football. While he has retired, he still has a passion for the sport. His current favorite part of his job is directing the morning traffic. “I like to see when school first starts and how bad traffic is and by October out here everything is in tune and in a heartbeat. You know once everybody follows the directions, and I know the problem is never the kids. It’s always the parents,” Creer said.
One thing that brings him the most joy at BSM is watching a kid he coached or mentored grow into a responsible adult. “The kids make it special because I watch kids from seventh grade to watch them graduate. So to watch them transform every year, I love it. I still am like ‘oh my god, you’re graduating already.’ Time goes by so fast, and I love it. I love the experience,” Creer said.
Creer has done many things before joining the Red Knights. When he first got out of college, he started as a mailman and did that for about four years. After that, he was an account rep for Xerox Corporation, and then he became a litigation specialist. “I built a database of everything that we’re doing in court or any type of discoveries, I will put them in a database so that when we go to court, there’s no surprises,” Creer said.
Creer got connected with BSM because his son played football at Holy Angels, but he wanted a better education for him. So they decided to bring him here after his freshman year. They have been here since. “All his friends he played football with went to Holy Angels, but for education purposes, we came here,” Creer said.
