Homecoming Week Brings Exciting Activities
Grab your cowboy boots and hat because this year’s homecoming theme is “A Knight in the Country.” As homecoming week approaches and the talk of the festivities continues in the hallway here’s what students should be looking forward to.
Dress Up Days
This year the student council has generated new ideas, lining up a week of excitement for students at BSM. To start out the week, Monday is Country vs. Country Club day, which takes inspiration from the homecoming theme. Adam Sandler day is on Tuesday, so make sure to wear your baggy shirts and shorts. On Wednesday, Dress Your Best! Come to school in your finest formalwear to prepare for Mass. Thursday is Generations Day, where students and staff can dress as babies, parents or grandparents. And to finish off the week is a classic BSM spirit day, where students will wear red and white for to show school spirit. “The dress up days are going to be way more fun than usual,” Junior Student Council representative Anne Marie Khoueir said.
Daily Activities
One change in this year’s festivities is that now all nighttime activities will now take place throughout the day. That includes the girls powderpuff game and boys volleyball game, which will occur during the school day to allow everyone to watch, cheer on the players, or even join in. “The reason why we’re doing this is because we open it up to all students. [Students] are able to come instead of just those who have transportation… [and] to all athletes who potentially would have games that same night, they can watch and participate,” Student Council Advisor Cami Dhalstrom said.
Mark Vande Hei
Another exciting event that is new this year is on the Friday before the dance, Mark Vande Hei, a Benilde St. Margaret’s alumni, will come speak about his trip to the International Space Station. He set the record for longest space flight by an American.
Football Game
The homecoming football game is occurring on Saturday the 24th at 12 pm versus St Louis Park. The theme is spirit wear where students will wear their red and white to support the team. All supporters should be excited to flood the bleachers and cheer on the BSM football team.
Homecoming Dances
To end the week, there is the traditional homecoming dance, of course. But, freshmen will get to have their own dance on Friday the 23rd. Upperclassmen should be excited for the appearance of a mechanical bull to ride. But, that’s not the only fun thing to do at the dance, as there will be a DJ, bonfire, cornhole, ping pong and, to go along with the country theme, there will be horseshoes.
Yeehaw!
