The college admissions process remains stressful
November 1st has passed which means seniors have submitted some of their college applications, and some have already received some admission decisions back. The stress of applying to college and figuring out where you want to continue your education is an extremely stressful time for many, and BSM students are no exception to this.
It is no secret that applying to college is a strenuous process. Many students believe the most time consuming element is the essays colleges require. “I think the supplements are the most time consuming, I mean once you have everything else done you’re pretty good but you are just trying to make your supplements as good as they can be,” senior Avery Junker said.
Senior Conner Couture is an up and coming architecture student who comments on the struggle that comes with choosing his major. “I think the hardest part for me was getting my portfolio done in time for my November 1st deadline. No one really talks about how and when to work on portfolios in the application process so the November 1st deadline really snuck up on me,” Couture said.
Additionally, senior Collin Keegan is also finalizing his college application and making sure his best work is shown. “For me the hardest part of the college process is finding and narrowing down your options, but I am ready to apply,” Keegan said.
Since BSM is a college preparatory school, there is a strong emphasis on what college you decide to go to. Many feel the weight of this decision through the social pressures in the BSM community, “I think that there is a lot of pressure around it to be somebody that you may not be and I think it’s important to stay true to yourself through the whole process,” Junker said.
This stress will continue for BSM seniors as the application process continues. All students are at different parts in the process, and the stress may thicken as they wait for the rest of their college decisions to come back in the coming months. December is a big month for seniors, as some of the earliest decisions, including early decision and early action, will start to roll out, which have the potential to unlock the next chapters of BSM students’ lives.
