Camila Cabello puts a new twist on Cinderella
The new Cinderella movie, starring Camila Cabello, is a Sony and Amazon movie directed by Kay Cannon. The movie reminded me of all the typical Cinderella movies that have already been made.
IMDb gave Cinderella a 4.2/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 43%. The ratings are all accurate. The movie wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t good by any means. The movie wasn’t very unique either; about 10 minutes into the movie, I could accurately predict the rest.
Camila Cabello plays the main character, Cinderella. She did a pretty good job for it being her first movie. Her singing was good, but that was expected since she is a famous singer. Her acting was just average, I’m guessing she got the role because she could sing. She has room to improve if she wants to make a movie that has higher standards than a children’s movie.
One of the main points of a musical is the music, but the music in the movie wasn’t unique. Every song within the movie was basically a copy of another song I’ve heard already. They just changed a few words in the song to make it seem different. All of the popular musicals that I know have their own songs that were made for the movie, which is partly why they are so popular.
On a more positive note, the movie did good at showing that women can do just as much as men. Cinderella has the dream of being a businesswoman, which during the time period of this movie was not allowed. She doesn’t give up, which helps young girls realize that they can do as much as men.
I’d give the movie a 5/10. The reason why I’m giving them a 5/10 instead of a 3/10 is because they did such a good job at showing the theme of women’s rights and gender equality. But, the movie could definitely make some improvements to make it more unique.
