Soccer sisters: The Fortiers bond on and off the field
Sisters Frida Fortier(sophomore) and Stella Fortier (junior) have a strong bond both on and off the field.
Beyoncé and Solange. Mary Kate and Ashley. Kendall and Kylie. Hollywood has lots of talented sisters, but they aren’t the only ones. Benilde-St. Margaret’s has an iconic sister duo: Junior Stella and Sophomore Frida Fortier. But, instead of running a million-dollar fashion empire, they are running on the soccer field.
The Fortiers first played on the same team as ten-year-olds, but despite this history, playing together wasn’t always easy. “We have definitely gotten into some arguments on the field, including when she doesn’t listen to what I’m saying,” Stella said. Frida was quick to disagree. “I do listen to Stella,” Frida said.
The Fortiers have an established reputation of bickering during games and practices. “They argue about all kinds of stuff. Frida accuses Stella of taking her red socks daily,” senior captain Maddie Stoks said.
Although the Fortiers argue, their sister bond is undeniable on the field.“I can usually anticipate what Frida does before she actually does it, so that’s really helpful when we both play on the field,” Stella said. Their sister connection helps the girls’ team have a solid defense. “We both played outside back last year, so communication was really important,” Frida said.
The Fortier’s hard work last season paid off when the girls’ team won the State Tournament. “[Winning the State tournament] was a really cool bonding experience, especially to win a State Title with my little sister,” Stella said.
The Fortier sisters are looking forward to the rest of the season. “We are in a little bit of a rut, but I’m looking forward to getting better for Sections,” Stella said.
