BSM girls’ lacrosse players warm up before practice.

The BSM girls’ lacrosse team is looking for a big season this spring.  After going 8-8 last year, senior captains Anna Bergsland and Ellie Bahr will look to lead the Red Knights to a winning record.

Tryouts will begin on Monday, April 3, and then the girls will be off and running.  There are 40 sophomore girls trying out for the team–with those numbers, the future is sure to be bright for the Red Knights.  “We have over 85 girls total trying out [this season], which is amazing. It shows how much the sport is growing even inside a small school like BSM,” Bahr said.  “There are a lot of younger girls in grades 7-10 that have developed a big interest in the sport this year, [and] it’s going to help the program to continue to be successful in the upcoming years.”

The time is now for the seniors to succeed, and they are looking to go all the way this season.  Senior captain Ellie Bahr is committed to Northern Michigan University to play lacrosse and is looking to make the most out of her senior season.  “I think that we’re going to have a strong team this year; we lost a lot of strong, key players but I still think that we will be able to go far in [The Section 5 Tournament] and even [to] State. With so many girls trying out and a smaller roster, we have a majority of the same girls [from last year] coming back. We want to win the Metro West Conference again and then win our Section and go to State. We lose to Blake every year in the Section Final, and everyone on the team is determined to go to State,” Bahr said.

Senior captain Anna Bergsland is also very excited for the upcoming season.  “Our goal is to make it to State and we think [that] it is more doable this year than last year.  We are nervous to play Breck because they are really young, and [because] we beat them last year in double overtime,” Bergsland said.

Other seniors on the team this season include Jordan Sims, Emma Lindahl, and Claire Alme.  With only five seniors on the team this season, they will be a young team with lots of potential for the upcoming years.

The biggest rivals for the Red Knights this season will be Blake and Breck.  After losing to Blake last year in the Section 5 Tournament, they will look for revenge this year.  Breck is also thought to be a rival to BSM, as they are a solid team with a lot of youth and talent.  “Our biggest rivals are for sure Breck and Blake, [because] they’re both in our Section again and have always had strong programs. We’ve played Blake and Breck in big Section games every year and are expecting to [do so] again this year,” Bahr said.
