Section 5AAAA Champs! Football is State bound for first time in nine years after rout of Richfield
The BSM football team defeated the Richfield Spartans 47-7 on Saturday, October 24, on home turf, which punches their ticket to the State AAAA Tournament for the first time since 2006.
The Red Knights got going quickly in the first quarter, with a 13-yard touchdown run by junior running back Ricky Floyd. Floyd would have another score, a 37-yard touchdown run, later in the quarter after junior quarterback Will Whitmore found senior receiver Riley Simonetti for a 10-yard touchdown to make it 21-0 BSM at the end of the first quarter.
Richfield would score their only points of the game in the second, but Whitmore had another 10-yard touchdown pass, this time to Cole Jacob, and Ricky Floyd ran for a 95-yard touchdown run to make it a 34-7 Red Knight lead at the half.
Whitmore would find Simonetti again for a 6-yard touchdown pass, while senior running back Matthew Turnbull found the end zone from 5 yards out, finalizing a 47-7 BSM domination.
With the win, Floyd broke the school record for single-season rushing yards, racking up an impressive 240 yards and 3 TD’s on 24 carries. The Red Knights now have a matchup with Becker on Saturday, October 31, at 3pm at Osseo High School.
