Six Red Knights advance to the state tournament
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s boys’ swimming and dive team performed execptionally at the 2A Section Meet at Richfield Middle School on Friday. Six Red Knight swimmers qualified for the Class A State Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center next week.
Junior Kyle Johnson put up two state qualifying times at Sections. Johnson placed first in the 100 Backstroke with a school-record breaking time of 55.58. Along with winning the 100 yard Backstroke event, Johnson placed third in the 200 yard Freestyle with a time of 1:49.67. He also joined forces with freshmen Tyler Metz, Tommy McGinn, and Carson Knoer to place second in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:27.36.
Freshman Carson Knoer placed second in the 100 Backstroke behind, teammate, Kyle Johnson with a time of 57.59. With a time of 5:01.49, freshman Tommy McGinn placed second in the 500 Freestyle.
Junior Matt Bonvino, sophomore Peter McCague, freshman Tommy McGinn, and freshman Tyler Metz also stood out at Sections. Their 200 Freestyle Relay group placed third in the event with a time of 1:36.62.
