Football team prepares to take on rival DeLaSalle

The football team fell to De La Salle last year in section finals, making this game especially emotional.

The Red Knights, who are hoping to make their first state tournament appearance since 2006, are looking to build off their convincing 49-point victory over The Blake School in the section Semi-Final on Friday, November 1, as they face DeLaSalle in the section 6AAAA finals.

As the No. 2 seed, the Red Knights know they will need to bring their best effort if they are to advance to the state tournament. “At this point, we just need to execute our game plan. We didn’t play our best game last time we played them, but we know that if we play our game, we can come out with the victory,” senior linebacker Mikey McGill said.

The top-seeded Islanders are led by senior running back Chris Williams and have used an explosive offense to go 8-1 so far this fall. It is no secret that defense will be a main point of emphasis for the Red Knights come Friday night. “We pretty much shut him (Chris Williams) down last game so we have to do that again. It is important that we play physical and keep our cool. Mentally we’ll need to be sharp,” senior captain Jeremy Pastir said.

With a victory, the 2014 seniors would be making their first state tournament appearance, something that would be significant for not only for them, but the BSM football program as a whole. “A win would mean be so special for all of us. Especially for the seniors because we have never made it to a state tournament. It would be a dream come true,” McGill said.
