In a battle of section 6AA rivals, the Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights defeated the Eden Prairie Eagles 3-2 on Saturday, Feb. 9 in nail-biting fashion.
Senior Chris Hickock scored 7:16 into the first period as he tipped a pass from junior Spencer Naas over Eagles goaltender Jake Gerdes. BSM added to its lead when junior Spencer Naas scored at 11:44 of the first.
When T.J. Moore scored a beautiful one-timer from Grant Besse, going up 3-0 on the road, it looked like a blowout, but the Eagles responded, scoring two goals to cut the deficit to one. The last minute of the game featured a 6 on 4 advantage for the Eagles once they pulled the goaltender and Moore was called for a slashing call. Goaltender Andrew Sprang held the Eagles off, though, recording 37 total saves.
With another solid section rival victory, the Red Knights look confident as they go into the playoffs. “We look good right now. I like how we’re playing towards the end of the season, and things seem to be coming together,” student assistant coach Jack Jablonski said.
