The Benilde-St. Margaret’s first line was too much to handle for the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers on Friday, December 21, exiting the rink with a 6-1 victory. Red Knights goaltender Andrew Sprang made 37 saves for the night in another impressive performance.
It didn’t take long for senior Grant Besse to show why he’s arguably the best player in the state, scoring just 36 seconds into the first period. The score remained 1-0 until Hilltopper forward Jeremy Lopez scored off his own rebound at 13:07 in the period to knot it at one. BSM forward Spencer Naas responded at 15:52 of the opening stanza to put the Red Knights up 2-1.
From then on out, it was all about BSM, as they scored four more unanswered goals. Unsurprisingly, Besse ended the night with a hat trick, and Naas had two goals. The Red Knights will finish the road trip against Hibbing on Saturday, and will hope to leave northern Minnesota 2-0.
