After going up by two goals early in the second period, the boys’ hockey team gave up three goals in 78 seconds to Maple Grove, eventually falling to the Crimson 5-4 on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Defensive lapses plagued BSM throughout the game, starting with the first goal given up, when two Red Knights bumped into each other, leading to a breakaway goal by Tony Paulson. Goals by junior forwards Grant Besse and Tj Moore and senior forward Christian Horn put the Red Knights up two. Maple Grove’s three goal strike included another breakaway goal from Paulson and a slick move from Notre Dame-bound defenseman Jordan Gross. The Crimson then added another before the end of the second period. Senior forward Jake O’Borsky gave the Red Knights hope with five minutes left in the game, leading to a scramble in front of the net that included a BSM goal being waived off. The Red Knights might not have to wait for another chance at the Crimson, since both teams will be participating in the St. Louis Park Holiday Hockey Classic, which starts Dec. 28.
