With Relay For Life only weeks away, anticipation builds for the big night of May 15. However, before Relay for Life opens there are still preparations that need to take place.
Relay for Life continues to be a success among students despite the dilemma earlier in the year about BSM not hosting the event. “So far we have up to 47 teams and 452 people registered,” said accounting teacher Mr. St. Martin.
But there is still more preparation to do before the big night of Relay for Life and students are encouraged to come a week before the big night to help out. “On Monday, May 10 we are having a bank night in the commons cafeteria from 6 to 8:30,” said Mr. St. Martin.
At the bank night teams will have a chance to donate their time to the cause and bond with their team-mates and other teams. “The teams will get their shirts, hand in their money, and decorate the luminaria bags together,” said Mr. St. Martin.
However, the luminaria bags serve as more than just a bonding tool and track decorations. “We will be putting candles in the luminaria bags to provide light on the track,” said Mr. St. Martin.
Students who would still like to make contributions to the Relay for Life cause but who cannot attend the bank night still have another option. “On Tuesday, May 11, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Lake Calhoun Chipotle, 50 percent of the sales during that time will go to BSM’s Relay for Life,” said Mr. St.Martin.
