When Punxsutawney Phil, the notorious groundhog, saw his shadow on February 2, it meant six more weeks of frigid winter. To make this punishment more bearable, Student Council planned Winter Wipe Out Week, a week of activities and dress up days to keep students’ minds off of the increasingly chilly temperatures outside. “It breaks up the long winter a little bit and gives students something to look forward to,” said Erin Katopodis, junior class president. The week started off with students’ favorite “Roll Out of Bed Day.” Then the spirit was kept up on Wednesday with a late start and “Classy Day.” Then that night, the annual Mr. BSM ceremony occurred in the theater and Michael Hansberry was crowned 2009’s Mr. BSM. Wrapping up the eventful week with neon day on Friday, the boys’ basketball game against DeLaSalle, and the “White-Out” dance Saturday night. “The dress up days were really fun this year, and it was great to get a break from classes and stress,” said sophomore Ellie Jaskowiak.
