Starting in January, the price of candy sold in the BSM Spirit Shop will increase to 75 cents. Currently, candy is sold during all lunches and after school for 50 cents, but Spirit Shop management decided to raise the price in order to help cover costs. At its current price, each candy bar only yields a one cent profit because the Spirit Shop has to purchase the candy for 49 cents each.
Ultimately the increase in prices will help the BSM community because the proceeds from the Spirit Shop go to the Parent Association which then donates all the money to BSM. Typically, the Spirit Shop makes $25,000 each year from selling candy, apparel, sports bags, and team packages. Even though most students will be unhappy with the increase, raising the price of candy is a necessary change that will help the school.
