The Netflix series Emily In Paris has recently released season four, full of charming humor and messy situationships. Season four is a binge-worthy season that allows the viewer to get lost in the fresh scenery, unique fashion, and romance. Overall, this season is filled with unfortunate and unexpected twists and turns at every corner; throughout this review, there may be some spoilers.
Emily In Paris season four continues the story of the main character, Emily Anderson. It walks you through her messy relationships with all the men she meets, her complicated work life, and her fashionable outfit choices. The major plot lines of season four concern Camille’s pregnancy, Emily’s love triangle between Alfie and Gabriel, and Sylvie speaking out against an old boss. As the season progresses, Emily meets a new Italian man named Marcello, and she spends the last few episodes touring the city of Rome with him.
One of the biggest faults of the season is that much of the conflict is resolved in unrealistic ways. The plot line about Camille’s pregnancy causes huge interpersonal conflicts between the characters. Camille finds a new love interest, which doesn’t last long and ends up moving next door to her ex-husband, Gabriel. All of this only to find out that Camille is not actually pregnant; she received a false positive. A similar issue occurs when we find out that Luc’s girlfriend, Marianne, is not a real Michelin reviewer and that Chef Gabriel won’t be getting the star that he hoped for. Major changes to characters’ lives this season end up not even being real. I don’t understand why the director thought this was a good idea, as, to me, it was a waste of time.
Despite the meaningless drama and conflict in season four, it has been my favorite season so far. I enjoyed watching Emily overcome more challenging campaigns and navigating through work drama with her co-workers. After watching this season, it became apparent that Emily’s relationship with her best friend and roommate, Mindy, becomes much stronger compared to other seasons. The two experience several challenges throughout this season, but they are always there for each other. They both seem to have the only constant, healthy relationship throughout the season. Their bond is unbreakable, and I am eager to keep watching and see their friendship grow.
The show’s humor is sharp as ever by mixing situational comedy with witty dialogue. This combination keeps me entertained and engaged throughout the whole show. Overall, season four was phenomenal, and I hope season five will be just as great.
