Coming back to school is always hard. This year, many students at Benilde-St. Margaret’s went to a concert or two over the summer. It is very common for an artist to tour between the months of June and August. Students have differing opinions about when the best time of year is for a concert and also what their favorite concert of the summer is.
Some students enjoy concerts that bring in an older crowd so they can really enjoy the music and have a calmer environment. “I liked Washed Out a little bit better, just because the vibe was a lot chiller, because the music is a lot slower, and it was kind of all old people, so they weren’t jumping around and being crazy,” senior Elliot Schultz said.
The place an artist performs at can also have an impact on whether or not fans have an enjoyable experience. Most artists just play inside at a stadium or smaller theater, but others get engagement by singing at more interesting places.“Gregory Allen [was my favorite] because it was at Red Rocks and Colorado so it’s a really cool venue,” senior Caitlin Culbert said.
Summer concerts can have a different feel than winter concerts, according to some students. There is more free time and less stress in the summer. The amount of school work decreases and allows people to have a more open schedule. It is also warmer in the summer which allows for different outfits as well. “People are a lot more relaxed and have a lot more time to go to concerts. So there’s a lot more attendance. And I feel like during the school year, you have to fit concerts around your schedule, and it can kind of be hard, but summer [it’s] something to look forward to,” Schultz said
Some don’t find the concerts that different at all. The reasoning is that most venues are inside, so there isn’t an effect on the performance. There is no difference in what you can wear and it is hard to differentiate the venues in the winter versus the summer. “All the [concerts] that I went to were inside, so it’s kind of the same,” senior Annie Marvin said
