A very anticipated season is right around the corner for the Red Knights. Halloween is a time for people of all ages to express their creativity and spooky sides through their costumes. The students at Benilde-St. Margaret’s are particularly excited to share their ideas for the upcoming holiday.
It is a common theme for teenagers to search for trendy new costume ideas through popular TV shows that have recently aired. Although the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have had a standing dance and costume tradition for over 60 years, the newly released Netflix show, America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, spiked the interest of many teenagers for Halloween. “I think cowgirls and cowboys are very popular during Halloween, and I think that DCC is just an even more popular costume,” sophomore Aida Parker said.
However, despite the show’s popularity, senior Hannah Buller believes this costume will be a repeat of a trend last year. “I think that the same thing happened with the Barbie year, and everybody was gonna go as Barbie, and it didn’t really turn out to be like that. So I don’t think it’s gonna be the same with DC cheerleaders,” Buller said.
Students at Benilde-St. Margaret’s have also expressed their procrastination when it comes to picking out their Halloween costumes. “Me and my good friend Lyra Carter have a tradition of going to Party City at the last minute, like the day before Halloween. So that’s probably what I’m gonna do,” senior Jalen Wilson said.
Many students find it not as important to dress up since they are mainly hanging out at a friend’s house rather than showing off their costumes while trick or treating. On the other hand, social media is having an impact on the excitement of choosing costumes early this year. “Last year, I did it last minute, but I think that I’ll start deciding soon, because it’s starting to come up on conversations and feeds and social media,” Buller said.
As a whole, the Red Knight community is ready for this upcoming spooky season. From pumpkin carving to designing their own costumes, the students and Benilde-St. Margaret’s are prepared for the time of their lives this Halloween season. “Halloween is one of my favorite times of year, because you can just dress up and be really creative with your costume and have a lot of fun and hang out with your friends,” senior Max Kloss said.
