Each day walking through the halls of Benilde-St. Margaret’s, you will pass teachers wearing anything from button-ups to BSM merchandise with jeans. Some teachers in particular choose to lighten up the school with their vibrant or cohesive outfits being known as some of the best-styled teachers.
The first nominee for being the best-dressed teacher at Benilde-St. Margaret’s is theology teacher Andretta Hanson. Hanson is best known for her variety of colorful and extravagant shoes chosen specifically for each different outfit of the week. You can see Hanson every day in the hallways wearing a bright outfit you have never seen before. “I wear a good outfit most times at school because it just gives off good energy. My outfits go with my feelings, and if I am dressed properly and appropriately, it also has an impact on my day,” Hanson said.
Hanson believes that the most important part of choosing outfits is finding what matches you and what you are comfortable with. It is not necessary to dress fancy every day but wear outfits that make you happy to step into school each day of the week. “Use your color matches and wear what you think represents you and your name,” Hanson said.
Next up is math teacher and head of the theater department Jacob Mahler who can always be seen with his suspenders, fedoras, and recently, vests. Whether he is wearing jeans and BSM attire or an outfit with spunky colors, Mahler is always showing up in a color-coordinated or classy, put-together outfit. “The most important thing when it comes to being a teacher is exactly how drippy your fit is. If it doesn’t drip, then the kids won’t learn,” Mahler said.
When asked if Mahler had any celebrity icons that he looks up to in their style, the only true celebrities that come to mind are his fellow math department members. “I mean, real-life celebrities, probably John Groess with his chicken outfit. The whole math department as a whole is just the celebrity style gurus in my mind,” Mahler said.
Lastly is a member from our BSM English department who really takes “dressing your best” to heart with each outfit. Anne Marie Dominguez represents the English department well with her classy and put-together outfits. “I always like to add extra flavor with what I wear,” Dominguez said.
A struggle for many aspiring fashion icons can be to have a variety of clothes to wear. Dominguez describes her perfect system, starting with always having basic white shirts that can go with everything and shopping theory for building your closet in an efficient way. “With anything I buy, I always think, ‘What other three things in my closet can I wear with that?’ and if it doesn’t pass the test, I don’t get it,” Dominguez said.
For any teachers out there looking to amp up their clothing game, each one of these “Best Dressed Teachers” agrees that the most important part is to be you and no one else. “Don’t be afraid to be unique because when you are too worried about what everyone else thinks, you stop having your own sense of style and your own cool awesomeness,” Mahler said.
