After a long week of school, students want to be able to rest and rejuvenate in order to prepare for the following week of school. However, sometimes the amount of work assigned prohibits them from doing so.
For senior Steven Sibri Pina, weekends should be spent doing the things that you enjoy, so you don’t get burnt out doing things that you aren’t as fond of. He doesn’t do his homework on the weekends, because he prefers to spend his time in a more enjoyable way. “On a weekend if it’s an emergency, yes, I’ll do it. But if it’s homework that they gave you, I don’t usually do it because on the weekends, everyone’s like I’m trying to have fun, trying to have a break from a week of stress where you have a lot of work to do a lot of projects or tests,” Sibri Pina said.
To senior Makayla Shiek, homework is a non-negotiable weekend task. She does her homework without complaints. “I mean, I think it’s fair to get a little bit of homework to practice, but not necessarily like big essays and stuff or a project on Friday,” Shiek said.
Some students, if they get around to doing the work, it’s not as bad of a load as they thought it would be. “I sometimes do my homework for my asynchronous days. I usually am able to get it done by the next time I have class, but I usually don’t do them…the day they are assigned,” freshman Peter Streit said.
Homework can be mentally demanding for students. That is why during any off day, some students don’t enjoy having to complete an assignment. “From personal experience, I know I’ve gotten less sleep because of homework,” sophomore Kaylin Konkoly-Thege said.
If a student does get around to their homework on their day off, their best effort may not be made when trying to finish it. They might want to do something else that they find more intriguing. “When you rush stuff, you don’t do good on your work. And when you don’t do well on your work, your grades will drop a lot,” Sibri Pina said.
If you don’t complete your homework when you need to, it has the chance of accumulating into a big pile. That is why Shiek likes to get it done. “I have to or else it’s just going to be too much stuff,” Shiek said.
