Here at BSM, dressing up as a team for the school day is an exciting way for teams to inform other students about upcoming sporting events. Whether it is a humorous outfit or a business outfit, many sports teams like to go above and beyond when it comes to dressing up. These dress-ups are not only fun for the participants but also for the rest of the school to see the creativity and express school spirit.
Whether it is a fall, winter, or spring sport, sports teams get to come together and have fun not only when playing but also in the busy hallways of BSM. Some recent themes that have been spotted in the halls of BSM include Barbie, where students dress in all pink, and Groutfit, where students dress in all gray. All these fun dress-ups create the ability for teams to bond and have more of a connection. From being involved in sports teams at BSM, I know from experience how fun it is to be able to dress up in something ridiculous with no worry of being embarrassed because my other teammates are wearing the same thing.
One of the best parts about team dress-ups is that there is no shame in what you’re wearing. The main focus of it is just to have fun and spread the word about the sporting event that night. Most students don’t follow every BSM sports team on social media so without these dress-ups no one would know about the event happening. The student life at BSM is highly regarded, specifically through the pride students have in being a Red Knight. When students come together to show their school spirit, the excitement and enthusiasm radiates to the rest of the student body. Especially at the beginning of seasons when students aren’t as close as a team, these dress-ups allow those new to the team to develop a sense of belonging.
Overall, team dress-ups offer many benefits not only to the participants but to the rest of the school as a whole. The energy and enthusiasm from the students dressing up radiate to others and bring the school spirit to an all-time high. By embracing these traditions, high schools can cultivate a positive environment where students are comfortable with being themselves and embracing their individuality. Team dress-ups should be a tradition that is continued for many more years to come to allow all students to be involved in this school spirit.
