As Benilde-St. Margaret’s juniors are wrapping up this year, many are looking into the future to senior year. Many juniors are trying to get ahead of the game and begin preparing for senior year. One step is booking senior photos. Senior pictures are typically taken during the summer before the student’s senior year. As students begin to book their photos, many are thinking about possible locations for their pictures as well as outfit options.
Photographers for senior photos tend to book quickly, so many Benilde-St. Margaret’s juniors have to plan ahead in order to claim their spots. Choosing the right photographer is important for senior photos because they all have different editing styles and picture options. Some students have received recommendations for photographers from previous seniors who have enjoyed their experience with them. Other students have family friends who plan to take their senior photos. “I know my photographer personally so I felt like it would be easier to book with her since I knew her before,” junior Kate Jaeger said.
Senior photos tend to be very expensive. Photo prices can increase significantly depending on the photographer’s popularity, level of skill, and demand for their services. Photographers take hundreds of photos, edit, and provide location options for their clients. Senior photos generally take a couple of hours to complete, so photographers are dedicating a good amount of their day to taking photos and eventually more time when they go through the photos and edit them. Many students believe that although the prices are high, the quality of the photos is worth it. “I mean I think all senior photographers have gotten expensive over the years, but also with inflation, I think the price makes sense,” junior Lauren Carlson said.
Junior students also tend to stress out about their outfit options for senior photos. Many individuals typically choose to wear multiple outfits throughout their senior photos. Girls tend to wear a short dress, a long dress, and a jean outfit. While many guys like a more casual outfit and then a dressier option, such as a button-up shirt and khaki pants. As juniors begin to book their senior photos, many are brainstorming possible outfits for their photos. “I have been saving photos on Instagram of different people’s senior photos that I like, but I don’t have each outfit planned out completely yet,” Carlson said.
