Having a positive relationship with your teachers can impact the way a student performs in the classroom. The benefits of having someone to guide you can not only increase your cooperation but also increase your engagement and your eagerness to learn even more. It also helps students feel welcomed into an inclusive and welcoming environment. Many teachers feel it is important to make sure their students understand they are cared about and respected as young adults. This helps students want to be able to learn more and participate in school.

A teacher’s support in your academic goals is one way you can successfully succeed in the classroom. Having that push to try hard, even when you are failing is something that students look for in teachers to help them succeed in their goals to lead to academic success. “I think about how my kids were in elementary school, and I know that liking their teacher or having a good relationship with them and looking forward to going to school makes it ten times more fun to learn,” Theology teacher Becca Meagher said.

Many people feel there is a barrier concerning learning in a school environment. It would be easier for students to engage more at school if they were aware that they were going to go to their class, that it would be fun and engaging and they would be welcomed in an interactive learning environment. “Having a good relationship with their teacher makes it more parable to go to school every day,” Theology teacher Becca Meagher said.

When a student is comfortable or relaxed with a teacher, they tend to believe that they will worry less about failing because they know that the teacher won’t respond poorly or won’t respond in a way that’ll make them feel smaller. Many students want teachers who are there to lift them regardless of what happens. Teachers enjoy when they have students willing to learn and make mistakes. “It’s important to celebrate everything a student is capable of doing and let an even less negative lesson be led positively and look well sure you got this wrong, but look at the things you did right in here, and let’s improve,” Engineering teacher Charles Nepomuceno said.

Many teachers like to connect with students on a more engaging level. Many teachers try to make school and their classrooms a welcoming and inviting environment for students. They want students to come in and have normal conversations with them. Showing the students that you are interested in their lives and what they are doing outside of school like activities and such. Creating a relationship with students shows that the teacher is curious and it makes the student curious as well so then they begin to form a mutual connection. “I want kids to know that I have a family and I have a dog and those sorts of things they can or what I like to do outside of school, the things I enjoy doing the things I don’t enjoy doing, right, it just helps kind of like we’re all human, and we’re in this together,” Meagher said.
