Bitmoji’s new look on students’ Snapchat is disappointing to many.

The new Bitmoji look has received a lot of mixed reviews, with many users expressing their disappointment and dissatisfaction towards it. The new level of animation is one reason why users have turned against the new look and want to bring the old version.

Snapchat is the most common platform on which to find Bitmojis, and it has caused a huge backlash on the app. Snapchat has been receiving a large number of complaints and poor reviews on the app store because of the new change, with users having hope of a change in Bitmoji in the near future. “I have not written a bad review of Snapchat yet, but I plan on doing one in the near future because I really do not like the new Bitmojis. I wish they would go back to the old ones, and hopefully letting Snapchat know with a negative review will tell them how people feel about the new changes,” senior Shale Hornig said.

The change that most users don’t like is the appearance being too human-like and the features of the Bitmoji becoming too realistic. Some are saying it looks similar to the animation style of Uncanny Valley. Snapchat users thought the less realistic Bitmoji was more fun since it doesn’t have to be spot on what you look like, but with the new update, if you mess up details, you don’t look like yourself or what look you are trying to achieve. “They make me feel insecure about my body. They don’t make me feel comfortable in my own skin, and I don’t think I can fully be represented with Bitmoji,” senior Gus Bell said.

With so many apps and ideas developing, Bitmoji has typically been something that doesn’t change, which users appreciate because they know that they have one thing they know will stay the same. It was easy for users to set their Bitmoji without changing it. Still, with the new changes to the Bitmojis look, users are having to change several things about their Bitmojis appearances, which is time-consuming. “I don’t like it because I used to be able to tell who it was when they Snapchatted me with their Bitmoji, but now, all these animated Bitmojis all looked the same, and I can tell who it is,” junior Hannah Doyle said.
