Attack on Titan season 4 is the final installment in the popular anime series but despite its critical acclaim, it is not without its issues. From pacing problems to animation quality, changes to the source material, and lack of character development, there are several criticisms of this season that have been raised by fans and critics alike.

One of the most prominent issues with Attack on Titan Season 4 is the pacing. The season covers a lot of ground in a relatively short amount of time, which has led to some scenes or character arcs feeling rushed or underdeveloped. The show’s fast pacing can make it difficult for viewers to fully connect with the characters and their stories, ultimately detracting from the overall quality of the season.

Another issue with Attack on Titan season 4 is the animation quality. While the series has always been known for its stunning animation and detailed character designs, some fans have noticed a decrease in the quality of animation in certain scenes. Some of the larger action sequences, in particular, have been criticized for their lack of fluidity and detail.

The season changes to the source material have also received some criticism. The anime adaptation of Attack on Titan season 4 deviates from the original manga. One of the changes is the addition of new scenes and one specifically is in part 3 of season 4 where the first scene is a call back to the first episode of the anime. Some viewers appreciate the changes as they add new layers to the story and offer fresh perspectives, but others feel that they detract from the quality of the overall narrative.

Even though there is much to criticize, it is also important to realize the strengths of this season. One of the biggest strengths of the season is when they make amazing fighting scenes with the epic soundtrack. The fights are always spectacular and the way the characters are animated add a lot of weight and realism to their attacks. My personal favorite part of the season and series as a whole is the soundtrack which is one of the best in all of anime. My favorite song from this season is the first opening titled “My War” by Shinsei Kamattechan. It adds a very eerie tone to start the season.

Attack on Titan Season 4 delves deeper into political themes, which some viewers may find heavy handed or controversial. The show has been criticized for portraying certain real world political ideologies in a negative light, which may make some viewers uncomfortable.

From pacing problems and animation quality to changes to the source material, lack of character development, and political themes, there are several criticisms of the season that fans have noticed. Despite its issues, the season remains a must watch for fans of the series, as it offers a thrilling and emotionally charged conclusion to this epic tale.
