On March 29th students and teachers celebrated BSM students that make a positive impact on our school community and represent what it truly means to be a Red Knight. Teachers celebrated BSM students that went above and beyond at the Students Recognition Award Ceremony.

Mrs. Van Cleve chose several students for the award, she explained how the award is for students that represent the BSM community in a positive way. “Students are selected for student recognition awards because they go above and beyond in some way. They really embody the red knight spirit, so they contribute positively to their community. They are kind people and they just represent Benilde-St.Margaret’s school,” Van Cleve said.

Mr. Canavati was at the ceremony celebrating BSM students he thinks benefit the BSM community. “I chose Midge Sanderson, Addy Morris and I chose Max Kloss and these are students that I kind of chose for different reasons. But they’re hardworking, nice kids. I’ve had them, or known them, for multiple semesters. And I think they exhibit what it means to be a good member of the community, to work hard in school, and to just be overall nice peers to their classmates,” Canavati said.

Sophomore Addie Morris was one of the students Mr. Canavati chose for the award. They both developed a good student teacher friendship with each other to make class enjoyable for both of them. Morris described why Mr. Canavati thought she was a good choice for the award. “[He said] I was a good kid, and I had energy. And I say hi to him in the hallways and he said it was fun to come watch my games,” Morris said.

Sophomore Midge Sanderson was another student chosen by Mr. Canavati. Sanderson was able to receive her award at the ceremony along with Morris. Sanderson explained why Mr. Canavati chose her. “[He said] I have good leadership and [am a good] example [and] a good role model at BSM and a kind student,” Sanderson said.

Mr. Canavati said that deciding between all of his students was an extremely difficult decision. He explained that all of his students could have qualified for the award. “It’s never easy to do that and I always feel like I’m leaving kids out. But, those were the three that I think came to my mind the easiest, but certainly I could have chosen more,” Canavati said.

Mrs. Van Cleve agreed with Canavati. “I would nominate 11,160 students if I could at Benilde-St. Margaret’s because I think that every student could receive this. So it’s always difficult to pin it down to just a few for sure. But these students really in the last half year have really demonstrated again, some commitment to not only the admissions community but the greater Benilde-St. Margaret’s community,” Van Cleve said.
