A New Fashion Trend Has Arisen: Slippers to School
Throughout the Benilde-St. Margaret’s community, a new round of fashion trends sweep the student body each year. The 2022-2023 school year has not disappointed, as a variety of people haveare having mixed reactions over slippers since they appear to be this year’s top pick for shoes. Although comfortable and trendy, many dispute whether or not they are practical to wear out in public or even in school and question how long they will remain popular.
Though cute for some, others believe slippers at school are unacceptable and should only be worn in places like your own home. “I just think they’re meant to be worn in private and not around other people because slippers usually aren’t known for being like a nice pair of shoes… It’s definitely easier to walk in tennis shoes too, so I don’t really understand why you wouldn’t just take the extra time to put those on instead,” junior Mia Rooney said.
On the other hand, other students believe slippers can be worn to school because they are designed to act just like a normal shoe. “I know UGG makes really durable slippers that are made of nice material, so you don’t have to worry too much about them getting dirty or ruined. I think they’re pretty stylish too, and they look fine, so if you like them enough I think it’s fine to wear them wherever,” junior Lizzy Hamel said.
Some students admit they haven’t noticed the increase in slipper users and seem indifferent to people wearing them at school. “I just don’t know anyone that actually wears slippers to school. Unless it’s like pajama day or something then it’s fine, but otherwise I guess it’s a little weird… especially if they’re all fluffy and don’t even look like a slipper I just wouldn’t even buy them in the first place. Honestly, I could care less what people wear though,” freshman Grace Bendickson said.
With a wide variety of opinions surrounding this subject matter, it can be gathered that slippers are an extremely fashionable form of shoe to wear, but are not preferred by all. Because these slippers are so unique and come in a variety of styles, their popularity has escalated this school year with more and more students wearing them. Though students don’t know whether the trend will last, slippers aren’t going out of style any time soon. “I just think it’s something you wouldn’t expect because they’re not like tennis shoes or slides, so more people are wearing [slippers] because you don’t usually see them a lot. I even see all my friends getting them and they wear them pretty often, so it just shows how popular they are,” sophomore Nelle Teitscheid said.
