Girls Hockey Wraps Up a Successful Season
Over the weekend, the BSM girls hockey team started sections. After a great season, with a record of 17-7-2, the girls were excited to continue their season at sections. Their first game took place Saturday against Hopkins Park and they pulled out the win.
To prepare, the team has been putting in a lot of work. During practice they are running many improvement drills such as face-off plays. Off the ice, the team has been watching a lot of film to improve their performance on the ice. “We are doing a lot of film trying to figure out what we can improve and doing a lot of systems work to refine what we already have,” Junior Siena Carver said.
While the team had a few ups and downs this year, as the season went on, they hit their stride as a team. They started working more as one and pulled out some big wins in the later end of their regular season. “We had a big win against Hill Murray which was number one. We were ranked number two in the state and because of that I think we were feeling pretty good going into sections,” Carver said.
The girls were feeling excited for sections to start. The team became very close this year and they were excited to continue their season together. They have had a fun season growing as a team and were hopeful they could make it far this year. “We are so excited. I think this year could possibly go far in our section,” Junior Julia Evans said.
Unfortunately, the girls season came to an end last night as they lost 5-1 to Edina. The girls battled hard, but were not able to pull out the win. It was a fast moving game with a lot of penalties that ultimately led to the girls’ defeat. “We tried our best, but sadly didn’t win. It was a fun season and I am sad it is over,” Evans said.
The girls are sad that their season has come to an end. They feel that they had a very fun season overall and didn’t want to see it end so soon. “We are sad it’s over and that the seniors are leaving, but I am already looking forward to next year and can’t wait to see how we do then,” Evans said.
