Catholic Schools Week Sporting Events
Catholic Schools Week was action-packed with many athletic events happening throughout the week. The basketball and hockey teams were in action and created a good entertainment option during Catholic Schools Week.
The BSM girl’s hockey team had a busy week playing Chaska on Saturday, winning 8-0. During the week they had a 4-6 loss to Blake and then a 3-1 win over Cretin-Derham Hall. They finished out the week with a strong 8-0 win over Waconia. With one game left in the regular season, the Red Knights look to boost their ranking in the section. “We’re mostly just trying to get points off our for seeding for sections So not creating isn’t really a huge worry for us, but we do have to get the win,” senior goalie Mia Rooney said.
The girl’s basketball team had an action-packed week as well. They played Totino Grace on Saturday winning 76-64, then they moved on to Orono, beating the Spartans 73-58. Then they played Chaska losing 58-86. The team is led by star Olivia Olson but doesn’t rely on didn’t solo play to win against Orono. “I think everyone on our team contributed and scored which helped and it was pretty even scoring and then I think we just communicate well and you’re good on offense,” Olson said.
The boy’s hockey team had two games on the docket for catholic schools week playing Waconia and Eden Prairie. BSM had a win against Waconia winning 11-0 but took a tough loss to Eden Prairie on Saturday 0-2. Midway through the week I had a chance to talk to senior captain Ryan Baird about how the team was doing and how the Waconia game felt. “I think the game went pretty well, the teams kind of came together at the right time. We’re just putting all the pieces in place and we got the job done,” Baird said.
The boy’s basketball team played Orono and Chaska this week. The boys had a dominant 78-59 win over Orono. On Thursday the team played Chaka. The team was eager to bounce back and did so and finished with a nail-biter win with a buzzer beater lay up to win the game 84-82. “ I’m excited. Hopefully, there’ll be a lot of people there, they have a pretty good job with younger guys on their team, but I think we should be able to handle them and knowledge being again,” senior captain Huether said.
