New Staff: Erin Offerdahl, Director of Technology
This year BSM has gained lots of new teachers. Although BSM saw a lot of teachers and staff depart for other opportunities last fall, it’s not all bad news. One of the bright sides is that the school gets to welcome new members to our community, such as the new Director of Technology, Erin Offerdahl, a BSM alum from ‘97.
As a BSM alum Offerdahl is now helping some of her old teachers with their tech problems. She grew up here in St. Louis Park and she still lives here and only lives a mile away from her parents who still live in her childhood home.. “Sometimes I walk down the hall and I have really weird flashbacks,” Offerdahl said.
She went to college in Wisconsin and would like everyone to know that no she’s not a Packer fan! She came back here after getting a degree in sociology and leadership. Once she came back here she got her certificates to start teaching and she started at St. Huberts
She started as a third grade teacher at St. Huberts school in Chanhassen, where she worked for 14 years. She has worked in tech for the past couple years. Bill Cheney, BSM’s former Director of Technology, was actually one of the people who trained her at her old school. While working for her degree in tech she knew she would want to work in a school rather than pursue other opportunities in the tech industry. Even when she was a little girl she would organize a play group with activities for the kids in her neighborhood. She always knew she loved kids. “I knew I was going to be a teacher from a young age,” Offerdahl said.
As a BSM alum from ‘97 and student council alum Offerdahl remembers loving the freedom of being in student council. She remembers the experience of getting donuts in homeroom and getting to make decisions on things with the input of her peers. She is happy to be back at BSM. “I’m glad to be here, it’s fun to kind of see it come full circle,” Offerdahl said.
