Senior football captain Daniel Porisch recently announced his commitment to play Division II football at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Porisch’s first thing he was looking for was a school that had a great football program, but he also wanted a school with a great campus, solid majors, and outdoor activities. “I wanted a school where I could do outdoor activities like fishing and hunting. I love to hunt and fish and it is very important to my life,” Porisch said.

The recruiting process for sports can be overwhelming and stressful on student athletes. Porisch knew it was a very serious decision deciding what school to pick, knowing he would be there for the next four years. “I had two schools that I really wanted to go to, but Northern felt the best. I was really getting sick of talking to coaches and it was time to make the decision,” Porisch said.

In order to get a feel for what the atmosphere of the school was like, Porisch recently visited Northern State University a few weeks ago. Porisch was impressed by the University during his visit. “I felt very comfortable being there and it felt like home when I was walking around the school. I knew I could see myself there in the future. I loved seeing the football program at Northern State University. I also love the coaches and the new facility that they added,” Porisch said.

Both Porisch’s parents attended Northern State University. Porisch said his parents didn’t pressure him into deciding what school to attend. “My dad didn’t pressure me to go there in the slightest, I thought he wanted me to go to another school I was interested in. However, I do find it very cool how I am going to the same school my dad went to,” Porisch said.

Porisch loved the education Northern State offers, but he is still up in the air on what to study when he gets on campus. He has an idea on what he wants to do, but is still officially undecided. “I’m interested in majoring in biological sciences to maybe pursue a career in medical fields in the future,” Porisch said.
