Outside the Wire is a new movie that premiered on Netflix January 15th. If you’re curious about whether to watch it, don’t worry I took the two hours to sit down and watch it to help you decide.

The movie starts when an ambush takes place during the Civil War in 2036 on a team of United States Marines and “Gumps” (robotic soldiers). Pilot Harp is sent to a deadly militarized zone after disobeying direct orders at the cost of two soldiers’ lives. Harp finds himself working for Captain Leo, a top secret android soldier posing as an eccentric human military officer. Harp joins Leo for a mission to prevent pro-Russian terrorist Victor Koval from gaining control of a nuclear missile network. They do so by going undercover and delivering vaccines to a refugee camp. Their mission gets interrupted when their convoy responds to a reported attack, which ends with a stand-off between the US Marines and armed locals.

In my opinion, this movie was decent but nothing more. It was full of action and had a strong lead and some intriguing themes, but rarely rises above being an action thriller. In the beginning, it seemed like it was going somewhere, which had me interested, but as the movie continued, it did not satisfy. Although the movie was not my favorite, it was a good one-time watch and I’m glad I can say I have seen it.

As for the critics, they have the same opinions as I do. Collectively, they mention how this movie was nothing but death and a lot of explosions, which I can agree with. Some also say the acting in this movie was mediocre, but I thought it was fairly sufficient.

As for the Rotten Tomatoes, only 36% were bad and the other 71% were good (out of 929 users). Right now, Outside the Wire is ranked in the top ten on Netflix. Most of the critics did not seem very pleased with this film, but it seems that Netflix users did in fact enjoy the movie. As far as recommendations go, I would recommend you to watch this if you are into strong violence and suspense. This movie is really good if you are struggling to find something exciting to watch and want to sit on the edge of your seat. Other movies similar would be Extraction, Lockout, and 6 Underground.
