Girls’ tennis team wins big this season

During the regular season, the BSM girls’ tennis team had a 12-1 record, only losing to Blake, and now they are cruising through sections.
COVID split up a lot of sports teams and had a negative impact on them, but the BSM girls’ tennis team is inseparable. “[COVID] did hurt us because we [couldn’t] get to know each other well, but then also, when we were together, it made us cherish that practice time, the match times––just us appreciate each other’s company,” eighth grader Annika Olson said.
Breck is a big match for the tennis team and the highlight of the season for most of the players. The match was a very tight and competitive one, but this season, BSM took the win. “For the Breck match, we beat them 5-2. Going into the match, no one really knew what the outcome would be. Since I’ve been on the team, we haven’t beaten Breck. This year, we have a lot of skill on the team, and we are all very close which is what I think helped us beat Breck,” senior captain Grace Bauer, who joined the team as a freshman, said.
This season the Red Knights grew not only as a team but also as in skill. “Having younger people, who are willing to work hard and commit and not just make the team and not try anymore and work hard for us, definitely has helped us,” junior Cassie Stidman said.
“Skill-wise I think our team has grown a lot. During practices and matches we play with a lot of different people which I think helps us to get better individually,” Bauer said.
Though there is not a state tournament, sections are happening, and the girls are set as the number one seed for the tournament. “So far, we’ve played two teams that were pretty beatable,” Bauer said.
The BSM girls’ tennis team is now off to the semifinals. “This upcoming week when we play in the semifinals and hopefully the finals will definitely be more challenging for us. I’m really proud of the team for how well we’ve done this season. I hope the team can continue to grow and keep winning,” Bauer said.
