Val: Walker Mullin
Walker Mullin is the only guy from BSM who has managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout all four years of high school this year.
Mullin credits most of his academic success throughout high school to his work ethic. “I would get my homework done no matter the cost. I used to have a lot of late nights until this semester. My motto used to be ‘grind first, have fun later,’” Mullin said.
Mullin found high school pretty difficult up until this year. At times, he came close to losing his perfect GPA. At BSM, a 93% is the lowest grade a student can receive while still earning an A. “I got a 93% in AP Chem first semester this year, and I got a D+ on the sludge project in science freshmen year, which brought my grade down to a 93% as well,” Mullin said.
Although Mullin has had immense success in his academics, he has also had success outside of the classroom. This year, he was a captain of both the sailing and wrestling teams at BSM. “I did karate up until my junior year and earned a black belt, but I ‘retired’ to focus on sailing and wrestling,” Mullin said.
Next year, Mullin will be attending Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, and he will be majoring in business. Some of the main factors in his college decision were Clemson’s amazing sailing program and their brand new business school. “I loved the campus at Clemson since I first set foot on it. It is gorgeous and everyone seems happy,” Mullin said.
Although Mullin worked hard to earn his grades, he would take high school a little differently if he had the option to redo it. “I am glad I worked hard throughout high school, but I would tell my freshman self that grades don’t matter as much as you think, and you should be more social,” Mullin said.
