With months and months of practice and competitions under their belt, the Benilde-St. Margaret’s Dance Team — more formally known as the Knightettes — is gearing up for another successful Sections weekend.

After a victorious season finishing second in their conference, trailing closely behind AAA team Chaska, the Knightettes are hungry for a blue medal this weekend. Their section, however, is known for being one of the most competitive sections in the state. As they are competing against their biggest rival, the Totino-Grace E’gals, the section’s title is always a toss-up.

As the team has successfully placed at Sections and went on to state consecutively for many years, the team is going into this weekend with hopeful and confident minds. “I believe that sections will go very well for us this weekend, being that we’ve trained very hard for this important day. Regardless of what happens, I’ll be proud of each and every dancer for giving it their all,” senior captain Lauren Chevalier said.

The Knightettes theme for this year is “make it happen” which has been the starting point for their two successful dances. The jazz dance “Our World” is a complex 2 minute and 45-second routine choreographed to be more lyrical rather than high energy. The high energy component of dance team, however, is fulfilled by their sassy kick routine titled “Around the World”. This spunky routine features a combination of songs from countries all around the world such as USA, Korea, Italy and more. The two dances have been a crowd favorite for the entirety of their season thus far and will hopefully win them a section placement this weekend and a spot at state in February.

As the Knightettes look forward to a day of dancing, they make the 50-mile trek up to Chisago Lakes in search of a section medal, on Saturday, Feb 2. The Knightettes will be competing against, Big Lake, Chisago Lakes, Columbia Heights, Duluth Denfeld, Fridley, Hill-Murray, North Branch, Pine City, Robbinsdale Cooper, Totino-Grace, Zimmerman, Hermantown/Proctor, and St. Paul Academy/Summit.

The excitement and anticipation of this weekend has been boiling up for the girls this past week. “Joining the team this year has been an amazing experience! I love all the girls and I can’t wait to compete with them at sections! Go BSMDT!,” Sophomore Lauren Hawkinson said.
