Science: Ms. Stephanie Lauer

Previously teaching at Anniston High School, Stephanie Lauer is the newest teacher in BSM’s science department.

Teaching biology and physics, Lauer’s love of science comes from an elementary school science class which made a lasting impact on her and inspired her to pursue teaching from an early age. “In elementary school during science, my teachers always had my class doing fun experiments relating to science. Ever since, I’ve always wanted to become a science teacher for a job. I wanted to teach in a high school and that is what brought me to Benilde,” Lauer said.

In her classes, the top priority for Lauer is to have an interesting and absorbing class. To ensure this happens, she likes to vary her teaching styles and incorporate hands-on activities for the students. “I try to change it up every once awhile so the students don’t get bored. My lessons consist of lectures, class discussions, at least two labs a week, and many activities,” Lauer said.

Though she hasn’t attended a Red Knight game yet, Lauer is excited to be a part of the BSM community, which she experienced even at her interview. “I felt that sense of community and care throughout my interview process,” Lauer said.

She attended and graduated from Aquinas High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and for college she attended Saint Louis University, then transferred to University of Wisconsin-Madison.
