The team has many good wins to start the season.

The BSM girls’ basketball team has been working hard and training a lot, which has led to success thus far. This year, the basketball team has gotten new coaches: Coach Mike Swann, Coach Snell, and Coach Lindsey. They hope to bring something new to help the team succeed. With the majority of competitors losing some of their best key players, they feel very optimistic moving forward this year. Their competition this year will be a little tougher, but they are confident they can win many games.

The team had lost a few seniors, but has new talent to make up for this. They have added new freshmen and sophomores to the roster. “I think they have a lot of potential and with the right skill development, they can be a very large assets to our team,” junior captain Cheyanne Carter said.

I think some of our goals include being fundamentally sound, having a lot of communication both on and off the court, playing together, and having fun.

During the offseason, the girls had workouts all throughout the summer, which included weight training, conditioning, and skill work. BSM Alum Grace Coughlin, who was a star varsity basketball player, attended the workouts with the team on Thursdays during 8th hour and helped the team. Their practice schedule this season is a little different since they all get 8th hour free to begin practice during the school day. This gives the team more time to practice on the court. “Since we all have 8th hour free, it just extends another hour to hopefully give us more time for our other responsibilities outside of school and basketball,” Carter said.

During the regular season, they have practice every weekday and will typically have two games a week.

This season, their goals include winning, but they are also focused on getting better as a team. “I think some of our goals include being fundamentally sound, having a lot of communication both on and off the court, playing together, and having fun,” Carter said.
