Girls swim earns fourth at Section 2A Finals, sends four swimmers to State
As the girls had a great swim in Prelims they advanced to Section 2A Finals, where they swam to a fourth place finish. All of the swimmers performed extremely well, but four swimmers in particular have earned their sport in the State A Meet this week.
The four girls that have advanced to State are senior Grace Hedin, juniors Maria Satre and Madison Semler, and freshman Ava Schieffert. Grade Hedin came in second in her 200 and 100 yard freestyle races, both of which qualified her for State. Semler came in fourth in the 200 and second in the 500 yard freestyle, advancing to State in both races. Schieffert placed second and Satre third in the 50 yard freestyle, which qualified both swimmers for State in that event as well. Together they all competed in a relay that qualified them all for State, the 200 yard freestyle relay, which placed first in the Section and set a new Section 2A Meet record. The four girls also teamed up to place third in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Freshman Elizabeth Dickey was also a standout at Finals, as she placed sixth in the 100 yard breaststroke. Other notable swims were the relay team of Abigail Gage, Elizabeth Dickey, Malinda Beason, and Morgan Williams, who placed fourth in the 200 yard medley relay. Many swimmers also raced in the Consolation Finals, placing in the Top 16 of the Section. These swimmers included Amelia Backes, Beason, Dickey, Claire Donesky, Gage, Allie Lang, Camilla Schubring, Gracey Scott, Abby Sohm, Katie Sohm, and Williams.
Overall the girls had a great swim and great State advancement as well. The four that are advancing to State will be competing on November 19-20, at the University Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus. With Prelims on Thursday and Finals on Friday (both starting at 12 noon), the girls look to put the finishing touches on a great season.
