Bringing lunch from home is a way to save money and eat healthy.

Bringing your own lunch is a great way to stay healthy while choosing what you eat. It’s easy and can be fun. Many students bring their own lunch from home as a way to spend less money and avoid the tempting pizza and fries at lunch. By bringing a bag lunch, students can personally regulate what they eat, and with the higher prices at Taher, making your own lunch is ideal for saving some extra cash. “I bring [lunch from home] because it’s healthier and cheaper than buying a lunch at Taher,” junior Anna Latourelle said

Main Items:

A tasty sandwich on whole wheat or multi-grain bread: add some turkey or ham, and embellish with whatever toppings you desire. Not a sandwich fan? Try a bagel with cream cheese to keep you full.

Make your own salad: choose dark, leafy greens and pick your own ingredients. Add everything from hard boiled egg, raisins, sunflower seeds, cheese, tomato, and more. Remember to store your dressing separately to prevent the salad from getting soggy!

Proteins:

Apples or pretzels with peanut butter: apples are rich in antioxidants and fiber, while peanut butter is full of protein and potassium.

String cheese: cheese has many benefits like protein and calcium.

Yogurt: a great source of protein, calcium, and potassium.

Almonds, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and other nuts: these are packed with protein and fiber and are a great way to add something interesting to your lunch.

Fruits and Veggies:

Veggies with dip: some of the best vegetables to eat are broccoli, red peppers, and carrots. Add some ranch dressing for some extra flavor.

Fruit salad: healthy fruits such as blueberries, oranges, bananas, and strawberries are delicious and nutritious.
