Adam Petroski, Choir

Knight Errant: Where were you before you came to BSM?
Adam Petroski: I am from Northern Wisconsin. I just got done teaching near Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

KE: What is your teaching background?
AP: I went to school at UMD up in Duluth, and I student-taught at a high school up there where I was teaching choir. I just got done teaching choir in Arcadia, Wisconsin. I taught third grade General Music 1 and fifth grade Music, also.

KE: What specific classes will you teach this year?
AP: I’ll be teaching seventh grade and eighth grade choir, concert choir, and chamber choir.

KE: Why do you enjoy teaching?
AP: I enjoy teaching because when I was in High School and Middle School I liked school, and I liked having teachers that were fun and exciting. So I’d like to be a teacher where students actually enjoy going to their class and think that they’re having fun in the class, not just a hour where they have to sit and be bored all the time, but be able to move and have a good time too.

KE: What aspect of teaching appeals most to you?
AP: I like working with high school students, and I like being able to have not just conversations in the classroom, but get to know students on a more personal level. Not only what they’re like in school, but also what they’re like when they’re not in school.

KE: How will you contribute to the BSM community?
AP: I can contribute by continuing the awesome styles and cultures that are already here at BSM and helping to bring those alive in the classroom, in the choir room, wherever, and being able to bring faith to BSM in that style of teaching through music.

KE: What do you look forward to in the new year?
AP: I look forward to starting at a new school. I don’t know any students here yet, and meeting a bunch of new students and young, exciting people here is what I look forward to most, especially working in both the Middle School and the High School levels. Hopefully I’ll help students learn that choir is not a boring place to be, but it’s fun and exciting to be involved in music.

KE: What is your favorite TV show?
AP: I watch a few different TV shows. I love Orange is the New Black; I like The Walking Dead, and I just finished Dexter. Those are probably my top three.

KE: Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, or Beyoncé?
AP: Nicki Minaj, easily.

KE: Cats or Dogs?
AP: Cats. That’s not true. I have a cat, but I love dogs more.

KE: Favorite childhood memory?
AP: My favorite childhood memory would probably be camping with my family up the in Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota. We do it every summer; we go up to way in the middle of nowhere.
