New floor and ventilation system added to Haben Center
October 9, 2014
The Haben Center floor, which hasn’t been replaced since the original construction of the Haben in 1986, underwent major reconstruction over the course of this past summer.
The modifications were made for many reasons. One of the more important reasons is related to the safety of the student-athletes. “[The old floor] was about three-fourths inches thick, laid over cement, so it was very hard and not good for athletes,” said Athletic Director Jerry Pettinger.
A newly added ventilation system will also help recirculate the air, which will offer better air quality. The new system will also help to lower the temperatures, especially in the summer, providing for a more comfortable training environment. “We decided that this was our best option for economic reasons and for the quality of the air in the Haben,” Pettinger said.
