BSM girls hockey victorious in semi-final against Lakeville North
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knight Girls’ hockey team took to the rink once more to compete against a formidable opponent in Lakeville North. After their convincing win against Roseau, the Red Knights looked to continue their good form as they fought for a place in the Class AA State championship game.
The game started with attacking play from both teams. Senior Kasi Petersen scored her second goal of the tournament and second of the season midway through the first period only to be answered by a rifled shot into the top corner of the net from Lakeville North senior captain Dani Sadek.
The second period made for eventful hockey with end to end play and little time in the neutral zone. Senior captain Kelly Pannek stepped up for the Red Knights scoring her fourth goal and eight point of the tournament to make the scoreline 2-1 in favor of BSM. Senior Abbey Miller continued to shine just as she did in the first tournament game making some difficult saves to preserve the Red Knight lead.
The Red Knights held strong in the third period with stingy defense and smart hockey. After some late penalties and a Lakeville North pulled goalie, the Red Knights pulled out the win and with that, a place in the State championship game against the Hill-Murray Pioneers.
