BSM placed in Metro West Conference for 2014-2015 season
With the North Suburban Conference disbanding after the 2013-2014 school year, Benilde-St. Margaret’s left their conference fate up to the Minnesota State High School League. Benilde-St. Margaret’s was placed into the newly-formed Metro West Conference for the 2014-2015 school year.
The Metro West Conference, which was Benilde-St. Margaret’s top choice for conference placement, is an optimal fit for most Red Knight sporting teams and activities. “It’s good competition for most of our athletic programs, and we won’t miss some of those long drives to Chisago [Lakes], St. Francis, and North Branch,” Benilde-St. Margaret’s Athletic Director Mr. Jerry Pettinger said.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s becomes the eighth member of the Metro West and joins Richfield, Robbinsdale Cooper, Bloomington Jefferson, Bloomington Kennedy, Chaska, Chanhassen, and St. Louis Park as the only private school in the conference.
While Benilde-St. Margaret’s conference situation has been solved for the moment, the conference landscape will most likely continue to shift throughout Minnesota. “Across the metro in the next four or five years you could see the shifting of some schools,” said Pettinger.
