The Red Knights began the 2013 baseball season taking on section opponent Hopkins, but five errors proved costly as the Red Knights were defeated 11-0 in five innings. Due to poor weather conditions the game was played at the Metrodome. The Red Knights were unable to capitalize on a first inning scoring chance and the Royals took advantage scoring 10 runs in the next two innings. The Red Knights only gathered two hits throughout the game as Royal’s pitcher Logan Althman struck out eight Red Knights in five innings.
Five errors led to five unearned runs, but good bullpen work by junior Jimmy Cron prevented the lead from expanding as Cron struck out five batters in two innings; however, a lack of offensive firepower prevented the Red Knights from pushing a run across during the game. The Red Knights next scheduled game is Tuesday April 9 where they will host North Suburban Conference foe Robbinsdale Cooper.
