BSM is hoping to offer a mission trip to South Africa this summer, but the finality of the plans is dependent on ticket prices and student interest. There are five spots open to current juniors, but if there is not enough of a response, the trip will open up to sophomores as well. Coordinators, freshman Dean Ms. Nicole Rasmussen and Spanish teacher Ms. Katie McDonald, hope to leave for Africa the second week of June and travel for two weeks; going to Cape Town, East London, Komga, Addo National Park, and Johannesburg. “We will spend time in Cape Town at Robben Island, Nelson Mandela was in prison there, and other tourist attractions, [we will spend] one week at Open Arms Orphanage, [one] overnight to Addo National Park, possibly visit a slum, and we will visit the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg on our trip home,” Ms. Rasmussen said.
