Although the Red Knights as a team did not qualify for the wrestling State tournament, they did have six wrestlers qualify for the individual state tournament. Eighth-grader Jake Allar, freshman Jameer Anderson, sophomore Logan Kass, juniors Jake Deutschlander and Christian DuLaney, and senior Jarred Oftedahl all qualified for state after all finished in the top 2 in their weight class during sections.
The Red Knights have had a very successful season as they finished as a team with a record of 15-3 and had multiple wrestlers ranked in the top-ten of their weight class throughout the season. Of all of the Red Knights who qualified for the state tournament only one, Jarred Oftedahl, is a senior providing a strong foundation for the future of the program.
Oftedahl, a Greco National Champion this past summer, is looking to finish his career with a state title and is ranked number-one in his weight class (113 lbs.) going into state. Another wrestler looking to capture a state title is Jake Deutschlander. Deutschlander was sidelined due to injury last season, but was a State champion his freshman year.
Other wrestlers to watch will be Christian DuLaney, Jake Allar, and Logan Kass. DuLaney is number-one in the 182 pound-class and is a national triple crown Champion. Allar, head coach Larry Allar’s son, is only an eighth grader, but will be making his second state appearance and is a favorite in the 106 lbs. division. Kass, a sophomore captain competes in one of the toughest classes in the state at 132 pounds. Jameer Anderson is unranked in his weight class (220 lbs.), but will be looking to gain some hardware at state.
The Class AA individual competitions will take place on March 1 and 2 and will be held at the Xcel Energy Center. The tournament has already been a thrilling one with Apple Valley and St. Michael-Albertville tying for the Class AAA title and Kasson-Mantorville capturing the AA title.
