In one of the most thrilling games of the season, the Red Knights were unable to defeat the Cooper Hawks as the Hawks recovered to win 66-64. Both teams played an up-tempo first half with the Red Knights taking advantage of defensive miscues by the Hawks. Led by five Nick Birney threes, BSM took a 35-31 lead into halftime. The Red Knights built their lead up to ten, but then Hawks’ superstar Rashad Vaughn took over. Vaughn and the Hawks’ pressure led to Red Knight miscues and the Hawks rallied to tie the game. On the final possession, Vaughn stole an inbounds pass and slammed the ball through the basket with three seconds left to give the Hawks the lead. When a Red Knight desperation heave fell short, the Hawks had pulled off the victory. Vaughn on the game scored 31 points for Cooper and the Red Knights were led by Nick Birney’s 20 points, Matt Lilienthal’s 15 points, and Colin Polarek’s 14 points. The Red Knights fall to 6-17 on the season and will look to end their losing streak on Friday Feb. 22 with a home game against Spring Lake Park.
